Trend spotting: Cut off shorts

Today we received two styles of cut off denim shorts. One is your classic denim, the other a pretty "goldenrod" yellow! Of course the denim will go with anything and we love the yellow paired with pinks, corals, aqua, navy, white, and so much more. It's a great color to accent those tan legs this Summer!

The shorts we have at Sugar are long enough so you don't feel like you're exposing too much. You'll never find us selling the kind where the pockets are exposed at the bottom of the short. Can you say TOO short?

Spotlight on Citizens of Humanity

Citizens of Humanity is a luxury denim brand founded by Jerome Dahan, which designs and globally distributes seasonal denim and fashion collections for women and men, including a women’s knit collection. Dahan was previously head of design for Lucky Brand, and one of the co-founders of 7 For All Mankind. In 2003, Dahan launched Citizens of Humanity. It is claimed by some that a portion of the proceeds are given to charity.

The company’s leader has evolved throughout his career opportunities, at places such as Guess and then eventually starting Seven for all Mankind, once realizing that Seven was not the place where his ambitions were going to be successful he created Citizens of Humanity. Ultimately he was interested in creating a modern Levi’s. Along with Noam Hanoch, one of the companies visionaries, they have successfully created Jerome Dahan’s mark in the denim industry.

Just a mere two years after the company’s start one of Dahan’s business partner’s, Michael Glasser, exited the company. He was a financial backer that started the vision in 2002 with Dahan after they both had left Seven for all Mankind. Glasser explained that they essentially had different visions for the lines and it was his time to leave.

Finally in 2007 Jerome convinced other denim legendary Adriano Goldschmeid to join forces with Citizens of Humanity and Goldsign.

Giorgio Presca in 2010 was announced to be the CEO of Citizens of Humanity, Dahan had been looking for around two years in finding a CEO to help globalize the brand. There was a total of 16 candidates, he met with 15, and finally decided on Presca. Presca had previously been with VF Jeanswear as President, as well as with working at Diesel, Levis’, and Benetton.

Presca’s goal is to make Citizens of Humanity flourish after the recession since it is his belief that consumers are looking for a authentic genuine brand, and that is what he believes Citizens of Humanity to be

Their main goal in doing this is to create active participation and raise awareness in assisting those who are doing their best to “Be a good Citizen”. Some specific areas that they have supported are the arts, AIDS research, hunger programs; totalling over 50 charities in the year 2011

Spotlight on Britt Ryan

Aaaah, Britt Ryan. One of our favorite lines here at Sugar. We've carried this line since we opened in 2008 but you may remember it as the former "Molly B" line. Brittany bought out Molly B and changed the name to Britt Ryan of Boston [Britt's hometown and now home of her first signature store]. While she still incorporates preppy chic looks of classic cotton seersucker skirts and dresses that Molly B was known for, she's also changed it up a bit and added richer fabrics such as charmeuse, posh ponte knits, and silk. Her line has been transformed and is now comparable to those in the ranks of Tory Burch, Tibi, Milly, Kate Spade, and more at half the price. 

Britt Ryan dresses range from $158-$258 with separates ranging from $98-$158 but the quality you will find is superior to all others. It may very well be one of the best lines in our store in terms of quality. We never have quality issues with them and each garment is made right here in the USA. Her styles stay on top of trends each season, whether it be the prints or a few trendy styles, but for the most part she creates incredible classics that are investment pieces you will literally have in your closet for years to come!

Celebrating 4 Sweet Years!

This past weekend Sugar celebrated it's 4th birthday! Wow! Time flies when you're having fun. We planned a fun weekend full of yummy treats, awesome new arrivals, free gifts, and fabulous sales. 

The store was packed with so many new bright and fun treats!

We gave away these adorable koozies with every $100 or more Lilly purchase!

Spring 2012 Pre-Order: Ellen & Ollie

Here at Sugar, we've carried the fabulous line Ellen & Ollie before. We dabbled into her exclusive collection and brought in a few exquisite styles for our customers the past few seasons. Molly Stevens, the owner, designer, and seamstress, {also local girl who resides in Columbia and is a Clemson graduate} was doing every aspect by hand and on her own. Well now we are excited to announce that Molly has found a local SC manufacturer and has finally went wholesale with her new line! She had her first "booth" at AmericasMart a few weeks ago and we were delighted to see the new styles and what she has in store for Spring! Now we will definitely have LOTS of great pieces from her and we are so excited to let you take a sneak peek to ensure we get exactly what style you love in the exact size you need.
