Fashion Must Haves for Summer 2012

Here's our top 10 for Summer in no particular order!

1. Colored denim.

First and foremost. If you're closet is full of greys, beige, blacks, and whites then yes, that is ok. But for this one season and one season alone you must {we beg of you} incorporate some color into your wardrobe. It's ALL about color this season. The brighter the better ladies! Colored denim is a hot trend that began last year and it looks like it's here to stay for a while.

We've got colored denim, shorts, cropped capris...you name it. Subtle and bold.Variety of price points so you can invest in a great classic color like the Citizens of Humanity Mango Tango (coral) or you can "test the waters" with this trend and buy a pair of iT or KUT jeans for less than $70! It's a great way to try the trend for this Summer! *New colorful shorts in orange and lilac just arrived from iT jeans this week*

2. Stripes

Aaaaah, stripes. Our love. It started out with nautical stripes now there's stripes EVERYWHERE! Take the coral Citizens capris above. Pair it with a simple, chic navy and white striped tee and you've got a super trendy look that's casual, practical and flattering on everyone.

Throw out the old trend your mama told you..."horizontal stripes make you look bigger" because now they are doing stripes in so many ways, it truly is a flattering look! We have such a variety of stripes at Sugar. Here's just a few...

3. Throw-on-and-go dresses {solids, florals, graphics, etc...}

Summer is all about effortless chic. It's hot here in South Carolina so what better way to run errands during the day or go out with girlfriends at night than with an easy "throw-on-and-go" dress. Even if you have three good "go-to" dresses - maybe a printed graphic, solid, and pretty floral - then you can mix & match those dresses with heels and flat sandals to take the look from day to night. Switch up the jewelry, belts, cardigans...the options are endless! We have styles beginning at just $42 making it easy to buy more than one!

See how a simple solid casual dress can be "dolled up"
with statement jewelry? We will get to that later :)
4. Crochet / Lace

If you love neutrals and are scared to jump on the "Crayola" bandwagon, we've still got a beautiful look for you. Crochet and lace make a statement this season. This poncho is the perfect, lightweight "easy-breezy" tunic to throw on over a white tank with denim capris and cute nude/printed wedges! Add a long necklace and bangles for a more dramatic look.

Eyelet, eyelet, eyelet. Also there's several stunning lace dresses out right now by Lilly. It's feminine, it's classic, it's a must have for Summer!

5. Color blocking

Again, color...color...color. Now there's two ways to go about the "color block" trend. First of all you can honestly just "throw colors together". As in a bright highlighter yellow tank with fuchsia skinny jeans. Tie it all together with a fun earring that may incorporate one or both colors or add a printed wedge/sandal to finish the look!

A few other color combos we are loving this season are:

mint & navy      pink & yellow      pink & royal blue    yellow & royal blue
aqua & coral          teal & purple     orange & pink      green & navy

The other way to wear the "color blocking" trend is to choose one of our many "colorblock" dresses, like this fabulous one from Karlie that's pink/orange with black exposed zipper to give it a little edge. We have SO many colorblock tops and dresses to choose from. Super hot trend right now you HAVE to try!

6. Statement Jewelry

Ladies, one little bit of advice. If you don't buy anything else this season then invest in an inexpensive statement necklace in a solid turquoise or coral because I can assure you that you will be able to wear it with nearly everything in your closet. Solid navy dress? Throw on a turquoise  Stripes? Turquoise necklace Hot pink dress? Turquoise necklace  Yellow top? Turquoise necklace  Seriously, it's going to go with everything!

We love big stones and this is a new favorite necklace that just came in.

Arm candy. Seriously, the more the merrier. Load them up for a dramatic "it girl" look that takes less than 2 seconds to throw on. Again, effortless chic. Easy easy.

7. Summer Scarves for a punch of color

Bright, colorful lightweight scarves can make an outfit this Summer! (as shown in this pic)

We've got bright pink, neon yellow, stripes. You name it. They are all usually less than $20 and an easy way to spice up any outfit in a jiffy.

8. Printed shorts

You can do preppy or you can do funky! We've got both! From Britt Ryan, Lilly Pulitzer to Karlie there are lots of options in a variety of styles and prices.

You can pair printed shorts with a simple tank or tee...

or get funky with it by doing a coral tank, black blazer and
statement turquoise necklace that would pair back with this...

Awesome, easy outfit!

9. Neon

As you've seen on this blog post, we have plenty of bright neon styles to keep you in trend this season. We will say it again, the brighter the better. You don't have to do head to toe neon like Kim K in this pic. Start small with a bright neon pink Karlie tee and basic denim cut off shorts. Or do a fun neon skirt or skinny jeans with a subtle blazer or top (as shown in pic) There's ways to incorporate it into your wardrobe without looking like a Glowworm ;)

10. Printed tops {Aztec, Chevron, florals, etc...}

Mother's Day Mini Me

Mother's Day is this weekend and what better way to celebrate than wearing coordinating styles with your little bundle of joy(s). Whether it's to church, dinner out, or just a day of fun at the park - we love coordinating our styles with "mini me" styles from The Frilly Frog children's store.

Here's a few of our favorites...

Pretty in pink lace. How gorgeous!!!

How cute will you and your daughter look in the new "Doodle Bug Daisy" print? We love the easy breezy maxi style and the mini-Adeline dress works for so many ages, all the way up to kids size 16!

We love the Shorely Blue Bellina print and the Ciara tunic is perfect for you moms who like a little extra sleeve coverage. How great does this look with white pants? The adorable baby shift is too precious for words.

Not all Lilly-lovers LOVE pink and we think this Worth Blue Flowers print is absolutely just as cute. The Somerset dress [on right] is a great casual, comfy dress at a great price too! We also have this print available in the Adeline style dress as well as the Callie skirt and Callahan short. So many options!

What doesn't look great with seersucker? How precious to coordinate a pink strawberry daiquri shift while your little man wears these adorable blue seersucker shorts? We also have pink seersucker dresses by Lilly Pulitzer!
Keep it bright with colorful "ocean colors" to match your little man like this seafoam silk
Britt Ryan dress!

"Buttercup yellow" and "baby blue" make a sweet combination. Throw blue seersucker shorts and a white polo on dad and you've got a precious coordinating family look for pictures without being too "matchy matchy"

*Psssst dads, listen up: Gift cards also make great mother's day gifts by the way :)
We want to wish all of our wonderful, hard working mothers a GREAT Mother's day this year.
Be sure to treat yourself to a little Sugar because yes, mom, you deserve it!!

Colored denim: Give it a TRY!

Bright, colorful denim is ALL the rage right now. Most popular in skinny denim and shorts! Here's a few new styles that have arrived at Sugar recently and simple ways you can style them for Spring/Summer, no matter your age!

Cut off colored shorts are a great trend for those of you who love your tan legs in the Summer.
We've paired the "goldenrod yellow" shorts with Lilly Pulitzer's Tenley eyelet tunic to balance it out and bold turquiose bangles to add another splash of color. Wear colorful wedges or nude espadrilles to really accent your legs and make them look even longer!

This is a fun look that incorporates color blocking, another fab trend!
Karlie bright yellow racerback tunic paired with our KUT fuchsia skinnies.
The chevron earrings incorporate both colors to pull the look together. We love this with flat sandals from Blossom Shoes & Such. She has every color of Jack Rogers and Sam Edelman t-strap sandals that would look great with this!
[This entire look is less than $100!]

If you like a little sleeve coverage and something flowy on top, this Ivy Jane mustard tunic with black stitching also looks great with the pink skinnies. White, aqua, or lime green would look great too! Don't be afraid of color. You can't go wrong with the color blocking trend!

If you like to be more "matchy matchy", that's perfectly fine too. We have an awesome new tunic by Ivy Jane that has SO many great colors and is longer with the skinnies for some of you who may want to "hide the hips" a bit [I'm raising my hand as I type. That's me - hide the hips please!]

We've belted it with  Lilly Pulitzer's new Summer straw belt in gold.

Whether you're 16 or 60, this is a great look for everyone. Just remember the brighter, the better!

P.S. We have a beautiful cobalt blue skinny jean on the way, as well as Lilly Pulitzer's neon pink skinnies and a mango tango cropped skinny from Citizens!

Trend spotting: Cut off shorts

Today we received two styles of cut off denim shorts. One is your classic denim, the other a pretty "goldenrod" yellow! Of course the denim will go with anything and we love the yellow paired with pinks, corals, aqua, navy, white, and so much more. It's a great color to accent those tan legs this Summer!
$56 | sizes 25-30 available
Celebs love wearing cut off denim and yes, there is a way you can wear them in a "classy way".
The shorts we have at Sugar are long enough so you don't feel like you're exposing too much. You'll never find us selling the kind where the pockets are exposed at the bottom of the short. Can you say TOO short?

Let's take a look at a few of our favorite looks...

Ashley Tisdale wearing cut offs, a button up plaid blouse, and fringe sandals. Easy to wear chic bohemian look that's perfect for daytime.

Here Ashley's paired two trends together. Cut offs + stripes. The oversized sweater balances out the cut offs. The boots give it flair and we love the big handbag!

Rachel Bilson
Oh how we love her style! How chic does she look here with a crisp white blouse tucked into cut off shorts and nude strappy sandals. Don't forget the sunnies and oversized bag.
Great look

Here she goes a bit more bohemian with a grey cut off short, booties, and striped tank

Yes, we all want Kristen Cavallari's legs in this pic. Wowzers.
Pair your cut offs with a simple tee, oversized bag and sandals [or dare to try a heel] and it's just a simple look for Summer

Who's up for trying this style? It's beach-chic and oh-so-easy!
Come on in and let us help you complete your look!
